Description :
This cairnfield consists of a number of cairns (at least six), most rather shapeless and may be natural, but there is one which appears to be sepulchral. This was recorded originally as 565m (b), but has been given new PRN 4511m.

Only two others were considered worth recording in detail:
(a) ST0939099674; 4.4m diam, c0.3m high; entirely grass-grown.
(b) = 4511m
(c) ST0938899713; c3.5diameter, 0.3m high; stone visible on S side, variety of blocks Dimensions: See description.

(1956) Six partly grass- and fern-covered cairns with average diameters of 4.0m and heights of 0.4m. 'A' is the largest with a diameter of 6.0m. At 'B' is a shapeless mound with an average diameter of 7.0m and a height of 0.6m. It is probably a cairn in view of the proximity of the others. (Source 02)

(1966/1976) On the Coedcae ridge, W of the Bargoed Taf. A number of small grass-grown mounds (about six are shown on the 6" map but there are others. Their age and purpose are uncertain, but the area also contains old enclosures of rectilinear plan, bounded by low grassy banks, and the mounds probably represent the clearance of stones from these enclosures. Cairns Inv no 388-9 (PRNs 563-4m) lie about 135m to the NW. (Source 01)

(1979) In the area centred at ST09429968, on a flat-topped ridge, are a minimum of nineteen partly grass- and fern-covered stony heaps of round, oval and elongated shape, averaging 4.5m in diameter and 0.5m in height. Of these mounds, seven are published on OS 25" 1960. The mounds are situated on formerly enclosed moorland. Several of them are on the alignments of old enclosure banks of average width 2.5m and height 0.4m, suggesting that they are field clearance heaps. In support of this, the ground outside the formerly enclosed area is still heavily strewn with stones (modern clearance heaps are still being created), whereas within the enclosed area there is no surface stone, and also a marked vegetation change. Further, their appearance and construction are noticably different from Inv nos 388-9 = PRNs 563-4m to the NW. (Source 04)

(1985) Cairns, on rough grazing, in two distinct groups: 1, 2 and 3 to the north, and 4-8 further south. (1) = PRN 563m. (2) = PRN 564m(?). (3) is a small oval-shaped turf-coverd cairn with some stones showing. To the south is the group of nos 4-8, which are all 4-5m in diameter, about 0.5m high, covered with grass and bracken (Source 05)
