Craig Ddu Mine

Description : Lead (1711-1899)
Geology Ordovician volcanics, shales and slates with galena, pyrite and barytes mineralisation. The main lode strikes ENE-WSW.
Workings There are three levels and a shaft visible within the afforested area.
The upper tip forms an impressive feature of the landscape and the level is still open.
Transport There are earthwork traces of tramway track beds out of the shafts.
There is evidence of inclines between the levels.
Power No evidence.
Processing There are ore washing bins and picking tables by the upper level.
Other poorly preserved building traces could be discerned close to the shaft but are not easily interpreted.
Other features No evidence. *************************** Lead mine worked from 1711 to 1899. Levels still visible. Several elements of the site survive (Thomas D, 1997)
