Description :
Parent record for the various elements of the extensive Maeshafn/Maes-y-safn lead mine which developed possibly from as early as 1640 up until closure in 1907.

The horse pulley shaft is possibly the mound lying to the east of the Youth Hostel, along the Maesysafn to Eryrys roadside at SJ20956055

Arguably one of the best known mines in the north-east Wales orefield. Other named shafts are Nos. 1,2 ,3 and 4, Wen, Downhill, Bryn Sirion, Grosvenor, Cefn Hir, Lisburne, Footway (King, Tony, 2005/6).
