The original name of this farm (Maistir Farm) is traced by Pierce (2000, 135-7) to the Maistir/Mayster where Llantarnam Abbey is known to have possessed three caracutes of in the 13th century (PRN 08438g) and constructed a mill;

Description :
The original name of this farm (Maistir Farm) is traced by Pierce (2000, 135-7) to the Maistir/Mayster where Llantarnam Abbey is known to have possessed three caracutes of in the 13th century (PRN 08438g) and constructed a mill; he considers it to be derived from the element 'mystwyr' from Latin 'monasterium', indicative of an early ecclesiastical presence.

Maestir Mill recorded as built by the abbey in 1204 (Procter 2018).
