It is listed for its importance as a rare engine house with in situ steam engine and for its group value with the other listed buildings on the Hafod Copper Works/Yorkshire Imperial Metals site.

The two storeyed building is aligned roughly north west/south east and measures 12.5m by 8m. It has a hipped roof, formally slated, a main floor containing the engine and a service basement, and is built entirely in patent copper brick with red brick dressings. The square, tapered, chimney is closely detached to the south, built of brown brick with iron banding towards the top.
