Summary :
Embankment and aqueduct carrying the Brecknock and Abergavenny Canal across the gorge of the River Clydach. Embankment built in 1797, has a maximum height of 23m and 100m long. The stone arch forming the aqueduct is 90m long.

Embankment and aqueduct (09981g) carrying the Brecknock and Abergavenny Canal (PRN 05979g) across the gorge of the River Clydach. Embankment built in 1797, has a maximum height of 23m and 100m long. The stone arch forming the aqueduct is 90m long.

42 GILWERN EMBANKMENT-BRECKNOCK and ABERGAVENNY CANAL: The embankment was built during one of the first phases of construction for the Brecknock & Abergavenny Canal. This substantial earth embankment (25m high x 81m long) incorporates two masonry aqueducts, the smaller of which carries the canal over the Clydach Rail Road. There is also a small overflow with a masonry footbridge at its southern end.
