Summary :
The Brecknock & Abergavenny Canal turns north at Gilwern to cross the valley of the River Clydach upon an earth embankment (site No.42) within which there are two aqueducts. The larger aqueduct at the base of the embankment carries the canal over the Clydach

Description :
The Brecknock & Abergavenny Canal turns north at Gilwern to cross the valley of the River Clydach upon an earth embankment (PRN 03199g) within which there are two aqueducts. The larger aqueduct at the base of the embankment carries the canal over the Clydach.

The single stone arch tunnel through the embankment over the River Clydach was part of canal construction begun in 1797 by Thomas Dadford (Canal & River Trust 1995-2014).
