Roman Marching Camp (about 14ha) situated at c.230m above O.D. and has an axis lying slightly west of north and the north and south sides are almost parallel. The defences (bank & ditch), damaged, are best preserved on the southern half of the west side.

Description :
Roman Marching Camp situated about 180m on the south-east of Coelbren Fort (00526w) and lying on part of a low and broad ridge rising to a height of about 230m above O.D. The crest of the ridge runs almost due West from the south-east corner and most of the interior falls, which lies on the other side of the Camnant. The camp has an axis lying slightly west of north and the north and south sides are almost parallel but the east and west sides are not quite so. The camp is 438m long, tapering from 332m to 305m, with an area of about 14ha. The defences are best preserved on the southern half of the west side and they consist of a bank and ditch about 4.6m wide by 0.3m high overall.
For most of the perimeter except in the south-west quarter, defences have been damaged by the construction of field banks. The rampart can be detected fairly well throughout, and except in the south-west the rounded corners are still visible, though all details of the entrances have been destroyed. The interior is mostly peaty and very wet in the north half. About 60m of the adjacent sides of the south-west corner and the corner itself disappear into the marsh which drains into the Camnant (RCAHM 1976).
