Summary :
A standing stone known as 'Devil's Quoit', described as a triangular-shaped stone situated in a large pasture field adjacent to the M4 motorway, surrounded by a slight hollow with a modern earthen bank to the N. The stone is aligned N-S and leans to the NE.

Description :
A standing stone known as 'Devil's Quoit'.

During a site visit in the triangular-shaped standing stone was noted to be situated in a large pasture field adjacent to the M4 motorway. It was surrounded by a slight hollow with a modern earthen bank to the N. The stone is aligned N-S, leaning to the NE; it is thicker at the base than at the top, the S edge is almost vertical while the N edge tapers to a point. The stone is a conglomerate and has a red calcite deposit over much its length.

Dimensions: diameter 1.5m x 0.6m (base); height 2.4m
(1933) Very weathered upright boulder of local stone 8ft high and 2ft thick at base, 5ft wide at 3ft from ground. Set well into ground, no signs of mound. Pasture (Source 04/03)

(1957) Stone is 2.3m high, 1.6m wide & 0.5m thick at the base tapering towards the top. It leans with its broad side to the NW & is considerably weathered. It is situated in low lying land at the foot of a SE facing slope. There is no trace of an associated mound or of similar stones in the vicinity. The stone at ST 44478758 has apparently been removed. (1987) Stone stands in a large pasture field, in a small depression c.0.3m deep. It is c.2.4m high and 1.5m across at the base, tapering to a point at the top. The stone is 0.5m wide at the base, tapering to 0.3m at the top. It is leaning slightly towards the N. (Source 04)
