Leat, west of Mathern Mill Farm, Chepstow

Primary Reference Number (PRN) : 11450g
Trust : Glamorgan Gwent
Community : Mathern
Unitary authority : Monmouthshire
NGR : ST5178191392
Site Type (preferred type first) : POST MEDIEVAL LEAT SYSTEM

Summary :
Leat to the west of the lakes at Mathern Mill Farm Chepstow

Description :
Abandoned leat filled in during recent time with 19th/20th century rubble and soil containing bricks and pantile.
Ditch begins at the brook near Mathern Mill, a little further upstream than the leat on the eastern side. The feature is described a 'drain' on modern OS maps. Measure of disturbance along its southern end but reappears on the other side of the motorway, heading for the Long Pond at St Pierre.
The drain appears to be parallel to that on the eastern side of the valley but in this instance supplying water to the St Pierre estate.
