Summary :
During the Palaeolithic Goat's Hole Cave was the site of a rare ivory workshop and a number of ivory wands were buried along with the Red Lady Paviland.

Description :
During the Palaeolithic Goat's Hole Cave was the site of a rare ivory workshop and a number of ivory wands were buried along with the Red Lady Paviland.

Six fragments of stone and one fragment of unidentified material, possibly bone, found on a narrow ledge within Goat Hole Cave. Four fragments of quartzite, possibly flakes, and two fragments which are possibly rhyolite. Thought to have been excavated during earlier investigative work in the cave and forgotten. (Bowden 2013)

One of the richest upper Paleolithic sites in Britain, excavated in 1822-3, Buckland, Vivian 1909, Solas 1913, Garrod 1929, Rutter and Allen 1948, Oakley 1971, Aldhouse-Green 1997. Ground now covered in geotextile. 19th century graffiti on roof and 20th century graffiti on wall. (Laws and Brooks 2009)
