The earliest mention of Ffynnon Elichguid is in LL 140, as a boundary feature in a charter dating to c655.

Description :
The earliest mention of Ffynnon Elichguid is in LL 140, as a boundary feature in a charter dating to c655. Some one and a half miles SE of Chepstow; miracles (Jones 1954, 194). One of Jones's Class A wells (wells bearing the names of saints. Trinity, God, Holy Innocents, Easter) Site now lost (OS card ST59 SW 27).
