Summary :
Site of Mathern Mill, possibly on the site of a mill extant in the 14th century.

Description :
Mathern Mill is a Grade II* Listed former corn mill, in use until c.1968. The present mill is 18th century, largely built in red brick, and roofed in Welsh slate. It may have been built on the site of an earlier mill (See Listing for more information).

Site labelled Mathern Mill (corn) on First Edition Ordnance Survey (OS) mapping (OS map).

A court roll of the manor of Runston, dated 1571, makes reference to a Mathern Mill. A corn mill in Mathern is also included in the return of the manors and estates of Thomas Lewis of St Pierre in 1585 (Bradney 1929).

Rees' Map of Wales and the Borders in the 14th Century indicates a watermill was extant in this location (Rees 1932).
