Description :
Small bi-vallate hill-top camp. The strength of the rampart indicates that this was a defensive earthwork & the construction seems typical of an Iron Age fort.

The hillfort is situated on a hilltop to the west of Newport. Circular and with a single bank and outer ditch, the interior is mainly flat, but slopes gently to the south. In the middle of the east side is a gap of about 3m, 1.6m deep, with a corresponding causeway across the ditch. The bank has an external height of 2.5m, and internal height of 1m (south of the gap) and 2m (north of the gap). The ditch is 1.5m deep. south of the causeway is becomes boggy and a ditch or watercourse leads off it to the east, turns to the southeast and then runs along a field boundary before petering out. Along the north side the bank has an internal height of 2m and an external height of 3m and the ditch here is 1-2m deep. (Wiggins 2006)
