Description :
Multivate hill-fort with widely spaced ramparts on S. possibly indicating 2 periods of construction. Ring - motte with sub rectangular bailey within the fort.

The hillfort occupies a commanding position on a hilltop on the western edge of Newport. It is grass and bracken covered with a few old and dead trees, and is used for recreation. (Wiggins and Evans 2005)

The hillfort occupies a commanding position on a hilltop on the western edge of Newport. It is grass and bracken covered, with a few old and dead trees and is used for recreation. The defences enclose a roughly circular area and consist of a series of concentric banks and ditches.

The hill fort is now slightly spoilt in parts by its former use as part of a golf course - the marks of which remains in the form of a tee and bunker (once mis-identified as ring-motte with bailey). Otherwise there is an apparent entrance through the outer rampart on the northeast side with a wide causeway through the inner ditch further to the northwest. (Wiggins 2006)
