Tan-y-Graig lead mine

Summary :
Open workings of a small lead mine with shafts on the western flanks of the Graig relate to the Tan-y-graig Mine. The mine was probably worked out by the mid-19th century. Two shafts can be located in woodland to the east of the school at SJ19855680. A further two shafts lie to the south of these; one adjacent to the road at SJ19705675 and one at SJ19955645 on the limestone outcrop.
Description : Lead (Early 19th century)
Geology Carboniferous Limestone.
Workings Open workings and old shafts on the western flanks of the Graig relate to the Tan-y-graig Mine. The mine was probably worked out by the mid-19th century. Only one mine shaft was visible (prn54036) however the area is heavily over grown with scrub. Other more substantial mine workings survive to the south (prn54046). (CPAT Tir Gofal assessment, 2005)
