Ton-y-groes is perhaps the pre-existing name for the area in which Llantarnam Abbey was established, then used as the name of park. Area of post-medieval parkland, encompassing the abbey precinct, now mostly new woodland/ housing/ bypass/ cultivated fields.

Description :
Ton-y-groes is perhaps the pre-existing name for the area in which Llantarnam Abbey was established, then used as the name of park. Area of post-medieval parkland, encompassing the abbey precinct, now mostly new woodland/ housing/ bypass/ cultivated fields, with some remaining parkland trees; monastic park probably covered undulating land to south of abbey around Pen-y-park and Wilderness (Reference to Old Park in 1634 and fields known as Old Park on tithe map) (Procter 2018).
