Summary :
The site comprises a charging bank associated with the British Ironworks. It is currently covered with a spoil tip and is also associated with surviving structures such as a substantial beam engine house, a remote stack and courtyard as well as vestigial remains of the furnaces. The British Ironworks operated from 1827 mining for coal and iron-ore at Cwmburgwm, and the pits were abandoned pre 1850 with the Ebbw Vale Company woring the Cwmburgwm iron-ore pits from c.1852-1879 (coal worked until 1912; Govannon Consultancy 2008).
