Chapel of St Gwnog

Primary Reference Number (PRN) : 08380g
Trust : Glamorgan Gwent
Community : Llanhennock
Unitary authority : Monmouthshire
NGR : ST3374892873
Site Type (preferred type first) : Medieval Chapel

Summary :
The chapel of St Gwnog ('Quencke Chapel') was a church where the tithes had been appropriated by Llantarnam Abbey; NGR places it a short distance E of Ponthir village.

Description :
Williams (2001, 305 no.22) lists St Gwnog ('Quencke Chapel') as a church where the tithes had been appropriated by Llantarnam Abbey; NGR places it a short distance E of Ponthir village. Very close to this is a half-oval enclosure (divided into two parcels), but there is insufficient evidence to determine whether this is significant, as it follows the contour and there are no significant field names.
Evans 2003: GGAT 73 Early-Medieval Ecclesiastical Sites Project database.

Field called Cae Chapel (Procter 2018, Appendix 4 part 2 - Llantarnam other holdings). Associated with Llantarnam Abbey.

OS 1st edn 6" marks the chapel at ST 33748 92873. Williams 2001 lists it at ST337929
