Community : Llantarnam
Unitary authority : Torfaen

Grange of Llantarnam Abbey, possibly being the original site of the abbey itself. Also known from documentary sources as the site of a chapel.

Description :
Grange of Llantarnam Abbey; suggested by Williams (1976, 78; 2001, 304 no. 70) as possibly being the original site of the abbey itself. Brook (1988, 79) notes this as being the site of a chapel, but it is not included as a chapel site in Williams (1976, 81).
Evans 2003: GGAT 73 Early-Medieval Ecclesiastical Sites Project database.

Valley grange in Magna Porta manor. Possibly the original site of the abbey. Situated at the foot of a long, broad ridge to the north. Extensive building by the Morgan family became the settlement of Pentre-bach with extant Grade II Tudor farmhouse and 17th century hall, later converted into a large barn. Substantial earthworks in the field below/west of house; could be a fishpond or the remains of a moated site (Procter 2018).
