Morfa Copper Works building

Primary Reference Number (PRN) : 08240w
Trust : Glamorgan Gwent
Community : Landore
Unitary authority : Swansea
NGR : SS66119515
Site Type (preferred type first) : POST MEDIEVAL INDUSTRIAL BUILDING

Summary :
The remains of brick building, possible a water tank, situated between the Morfa Canteen/former Electric Powerhouse and the Laboratory, Yorkshire Imperial Metal Works.

Description :
The remains of an original building situated between the Morfa Canteen/former Electric Powerhouse (PRN 08088w) to the east and the Laboratory, Yorkshire Imperial Metal Works (PRN 02423w) to the west.

The remains comprise a triangular brick structure with a flat concrete surface raised 0.5m above the adjacent path. The south wall has been damaged exposing an internal void, suggesting that it may be a water tank supplying the Electric Powerhouse via an iron pipe suspended from the latter's west wall. A structure above the tank is suggested by two window reveals, an iron upright and the remains of pitched copper slag flooring beneath the concrete. However no building is shown in this position on any historic map.
