Summary :
A war memorial of obelisk type uniquely set within an enclosure overhanging the River Rhondda. Memorial photographed by RCAHMW in Jan. 2004 in advance of its re-siting. (2004.01.27/RCAHMW/RFS)

This Grade II Listed Structure is constructed of white limestone ashlar its design is similar to that of Lutyen's Cenotaph in Whitehall, London. (Roberts, Thomas, 2005) Duplicated as core 08162m

Built 1928 and designed by William David Thomas. Constructed in Portland limestone with granite caps (replaced 2006)
Moved in 2006 and rededicated on 6th May 2007. Original inscription in Welsh and English dedicated to the men of Porth and District who gave their lives in the Great War 1914-18. Names later added for Second World War and later conflicts. Duplicated as core 06319m

Duplicated in 08162m: This Grade II Listed Structure, NPRN 309947, is dedicated to the fallen of both WWI and WWII. It is located in Porth Square and sits on the Cymmer Bridge. Constructed of white limestone ashlar its design is similar to that of Lutyen's Cenotaph in Whitehall, London.
The name of the architect or date of construction is not known, but the date is believed to be c.1920.
The recording of the memorial was hampered by difficult access and it is recommended that further recording be undertaken during the dismantling and relocation.

Duplicated in 06319m:
Porth Cenotaph and war memorial, built 1928 and designed by William David Thomas. Constructed in Portland limestone with granite caps (replaced 2006). Originally positioned jutting out over the River Rhondda at 302498 191325.

Moved in 2006 following construction of the Rhondda Valleys bypass and rededicated on 6th May 2007. Original inscription in Welsh and English dedicated to the men of Porth and District who gave their lives in the Great War 1914-18. Names later added for Second World War and later conflicts.

Originally sited overhanging the Rhondda river at ST02499132 and moved to ST 0244691333 with the construction of Porth Relief Road (Google maps 2018)
