Summary :
This line originated when the proprietors of the Clydach Ironworks requested that the B & A Canal Company build a tramroad to transport raw materials from the collieries and ironstone mines on the hillsides south of the gorge to the Clydach Ironworks (02476g). this was approved and it was designed by john Dadford and opened in 1795 with an edge-rail, but was later rebuilt as a plateway. At this point the tramroad system runs between the Clydach Ironworks and the companies' rolling mills to the west (Babtie, 1997).
