The 'Big Arch' is a well-known landmark in the area, forming the visual gateway to the former British Ironworks area. It was constructed in 1879 to carry the Monmouthsire Railway to join the London and North Western Railway branch from Blaenafon.

The 'Big Arch' is a well-known landmark in the area, forming the visual gateway to the former British Ironworks area. It was constructed in 1879 to carry the Monmouthsire Railway to join the London and North Western Railway branch from Blaenafon.
The bridge has a semi-circular arch 11m wide of 5 rings of engineering brick. The arch is 36m long and was constructed as a cut and cover tunnel.
