Description :
Part of barrow cemetery 8442g. A sub-circular cairn of the Carn y Defaid pair, situated on a false-crest N of 2081g. The cairn consists of cobble and boulder sized stone (0.1m-0.5m), has a regularly defined perimeter, although no kerb-stones are easily identifiable, and the mound stands quite high and has a disturbed interior. Within the centre is an exposed rectangular cist situated in a central hollow 1.5m in width (E-W) and 1.1m in depth. Towards the central W area of the cairn there appears to be the elevated remains of the original sloping mound, which now disturbed, has left a high semi-circular stone feature. To the E and SE are three circular depressions of well faced stone, 1m in diameter and 0.2m in depth, that appear less permanent and more likely modern shelters. The E area of the cairn has migrated down the slope 1m-1.5m.
Dimensions: diameter 14m; height; 1.1m-1.3m
(1957) Two cairns - A (SO 27060997) and B (SO 27081003) situated on the crest of a hill. Cairn A (2081G)has a diameter of 16m and a height to the N of 1.8m. In its top is a hollow, 0.8m deep, with an average diameter of 6m. Cairn B (3783G) has a diameter of 14m and a height of 1.3m to the S. In its top is a hole, 2m wide and 1.1m deep. (Source 04)
