Description :
Part of barrow cemetery 8441g. A substantial mound situated next to the public footpath, 50m N of Garn Wen. The mound is circular in form with a depressed centre and quite steeply sloping sides. It has a dense cover of heather and sphagnum; a hard surface can be felt when probing through the vegetation and thin soil layer. No kerb stones or ditch was evident at the time of the present visit. This cairn is well preserved and forms one of a pair; it is an important monument within a rich prehistoric landscape.
Dimensions: diameter 10m; height 1m
(1975) c.475m OD, on common land at the S end of the ridge called Bal-bach, c.2km SW of Llanthony. The ridge is particularly broad here, and the site occupies the middle, thus cannot be seen from below, but from the neighbouring ridges on either side. The mound is very large, but by viture of its broad base still relatively low. It has been badly mutilated, and a huge tower has been built from it i.e. 3m tall and 2m in diameter. (Source 03)
