Summary :
Small hillfort occupying a prominent rocky hill and naturally defended by a cliff face on the south side and by steep slopes to the north and west. The ramparts are low but can be seen below the modern field wall on the west side. The eastern side is also defended by a ditch, rock-cut in places which may also have had an accompanying bank. A hollow way leads to the entrance and is almost certainly the original entrance way. The site has been investigated by the Llanllechid and Llandygai Archaeology Society (CALL) and Gwynedd Archaeological Trust, (GAT).

''Caer Pen Craig'' first recorded by Hughes 1866. <1>

Included on map of antiqities in the area by Owen, 1872. <2>

Re-located ''fortified hill-top'' by Llandegai and Llanllechid Archaeological Society. <3>

Site checked and confirmed by R. S. Kelly, 1978: first detailed description. <4>

This confirmation noted by Llandegai and Llanllechid Archaeological Society, 1978. <5>

Site noted by same as being included in ''official index of hill-forts''. <6>

Site visited, amongst others, at request of owners by GAT 1984. <7>

Site and others in the area is subject of series of visits, 1984-6, by GAT, culminating in proposal to clear and plan it in detail over winter of 1986-7 using MSC Scheme. <8>

Site surveyed in detail (contour, profits, etc), photographed and described by MSC Scheme over 3 month period (see Aldo GAT28). Archive lodged in SMR: site report publication forthcoming. <9>
