Melin Bryn Gwydded, Former Site of, N of Glanrafon

Primary Reference Number (PRN) : 36112
Trust : Gwynedd
Community : Moelfre
Unitary authority : Ynys Mon
NGR : SH500853
Site Type (preferred type first) : MEDIEVAL MILL

Description :
Crown mill of Twrcelyn - served by Nantmawr tp, Penrhos and Deri. Baynes, in TAAS 1913, says it is on the Glanrafon stream (called Avon Voelvre by Leland), in which case it is most likely in the vicinity of Glanrafon, or just north, c. SH50008530. There is no mill now on the river, although there was formerly a water wheel at the farm of Glanrafon. Baynes says the mill was destroyed in the 17th century, but does not give a source. There is good potential, therefore, even though the site has not been located. Apparently called Melin Bryn y Gwytholying in 1647. (Davidson 2002, p.24)
