Description :
The name Carreg Leidr means Thief Stone and tradition has it that 'a man having robbed the church of Llandyfrydog of its books was on his way homeward, when he suffered a sudden transition of himself into a stone'. <1>

Maen Hir known as Carreg Leidr, stands on a natural knoll in a field about 1/3m S of the parish church of St. Tyfrydog. 5ft high by 2ft wide by 1ft 8ins thick. It has a projecting knob at the top of the W side. (RCAHMW, 1937)
