Primary Reference Number (PRN) : 1920 Trust : Gwynedd Community : Rhosyr Unitary authority : Ynys Mon NGR : SH40946595 Site Type (preferred type first) : POST MEDIEVAL MILL Status : National Nature Reserve
Description : One gable end still standing, and floor plan probably still evident (south of forest road) if cleared of sand. (Various, 1990-93).
Large "L" shaped building shown on OS 2nd Edition map. Now completely buried by sand dunes. (Brooks and Price, 1999)
It appears that this site, "Pandy", may be an earlier fulling mill, and "y Rholdy", at SH40986588, a later combined mill and factory structure. There are a number of fields in the vicinity which could be interpreted as tenter fields or caeau deintur, and it is likely that the cottage/cottages in the vicinity are associated with the pandy. The locations and descriptions of the various components of the wider milling landscape are not absolutely clear from the HER record and it is not currently possible to finally resolve these issues and identify in full the number of structural components at either the "Pandy" or "Y Rholdy" locations. The NGR has been improved based on historic mapping evidence. (Steele, 2018)
