At SO 13482 12083, the course of the 1793 Trefil Railroad (see 08858g for history) leaves the line of the 1908 mineral railway built over it and heads north into Cwm Milgatw. On the western side of the valley, at SO 13365 12495, the railroad is enters a cutting into the bedrock some 3.0m deep and 100m in length. At the southern end of this cutting, a very well-preserved causeway and culvert carries the railroad across the drainage system associated with Milgatw Farm. The causeway is 5.0m high with an arch 1.0m in height and span. At the northern edge of the culvert is a 15m stretch of sleeper beds. A similar stretch some 60m long is leads to the junction with the later railway viaduct.
