Summary :
A cross-dyke with ditch and counterscarp bank running across the Cefn Man Moel ridge from south-west to north-east for approximately 270m. It is about 5m in width and 0.7m in height. The ditch is c.2.5m in width and 0.6m in depth. Neolithic or Medieval.

Description :
A massive earthen cross-dyke and ditch running across the Cefn Man Moel ridge from south-west to north-east for approximately 350m. The ditch crosses the Man Moel road at SO 17032 05645 and continues south-west for some 50m before peterring out near the eastern boundary of Maes yr Onn Fach. The northern terminal lies at the eastern edge of the ridge at SO 17221 05839.
The bank is some 5.0m wide and 2.0m in height from the bottom of the ditch. The ditch, which lies to the north of the bank, is also 5.0m wide and 1.0m deep. There is a counterscarp bank some 2.0m wide and 0.50m high. A recent cutting crosses the feature at SO 17145 05777. (01)
Cefn Man Moel Dyke is a massive linear earthen cross-ridge dyke running across the Cefn Man Moel ridge from south-west to north-east, petering out near the eastern boundary of Maes yr Onn Fach on the south-west.The northern terminal lies at the eastern edge of the ridge. It is long of approximately 270m, with about 5m in width and 0.7m in height (c. 2m from the bottom of the ditch). There is a ditch immediately to the north-west which measures about 2.5m in width and 0.6m in depth.There is intermittent evidence of low a counterscarp bank, about 2.0m wide and 0.50m high. The earthwork is an important trace of a prehistoric or early medieval landscape and retains significant archaeological potential (Blaenau Gwent Heritage Audit 2002-2003 ; CADW 2008).
