Summary :
This 40m long tunnel with cuttings at either end assisted its associated tramroad (PRN 7834.0g) in maintaining a level track along the steep contour of the northern side of Blorenge and avoid passing through a separate parcel of enclosed land.

Description :
This 40m long tunnel with cuttings at either end assisted its associated tramroad (PRN 7834.0g) in maintaining a level track along the steep contour of the northern side of Blorenge and avoid passing through a separate parcel of enclosed land. The tunnel is of cut and cover construction. Most of the surrounding fil and embankments are of forge slag, presumably from Garnddyrys. The tunnel retains both portals intact. Of national importance as a well preserved early railway tunnel on an important tramroad associated with the scheduled sites at Garnddyrys Forge, Blaenavon Ironworks, Pwll du tunnel and Pwll du Quarry.
