Description :
The unaltered route of one of the earliest primitive railways associated with the Blaenavon Iron Company. The tramroad was built c1795 to bring limestone from quarries being developed at the northern end of the Blorenge to the Ironworks. The quarry appears to have failed owing to the steep dip of the limestone, and the tramroad fell out of use in 1804, the plateway track being taken up by 1813. The line was never re-developed and almost the whole length survives as an example of early tramroad formation construction. The scheduled area extends the whole length of the tramroad from the quarries to where it enters disturbed ground at Pen-y-ffordd-goch. The terminal quarry and limekilns are included within the scheduled area. Of national importance as the undisturbed route of an early tramroad associated with Blaenavon Ironworks.
