Description :
Please note that some of the sources contain information that, as yet, has not been included in this description field. This will be updated in due course.
A remarkably complete example of the Wye Valley type limekiln of the early 19th century with associated landscape features, including trackways, ramps walls and a quarry (PRN 7508g). The kiln has two drawing arches to the front, fed by a single pot. Some of the upper face has fallen away but the arches and pot are intact. There are substantial walls leading up to the kiln on either side of a holloway from the track which runs along the edge of the wood to the north. Limestone may have been dug from a wide area around the kiln, but a well preserved quarry lies to the south. Designated as of national importance as a fine example of this important regional limekiln type in its complete setting.

Double draw hole with single pot kiln; recorded on 1880s OS, but not on 1903 map. Located E side of large quarry. Hollow way entrance from track PRN 7509.

A limekiln constructed from roughly coursed stone with surrounding built up ground level. The limekiln has an internal square ledge on east and west elevations, two poke holes, and a number of metal hooks and nails in situ. Burning and animal bone indicate potential secondary use for smoking meat. It is part of a wider landscape of the large quarry but also with probable charcoal burning platforms (Phimester and Bashford 2007).
