Primary Reference Number (PRN) : 04292g
Trust : Glamorgan Gwent
Community : Magor With Undy
Unitary authority : Monmouthshire
NGR : ST44408510
Site Type (preferred type first) : Modern Pill box

Summary :
Cantilever PB similar but small than a type built by FC construction

Description :
Cantilever PB similar but small than a type built by FC construction. This structure was part of a system of defensive features, which included pillboxes, anti tank cubes and coastal batteries, which were constructed to protect the Bristol Channel coastline during the early years of the Second World War. The structure is believed to be a form of observation post, however, we cannot rule out the possibility that it is a variant of the cantilever pillbox. This structure is the only example of its type known in South Wales.
This circular brick and concrete structure is capped with a thick reinforced concrete roof, held up by four reinforced steel girders. The entrance is on the NE side, and inside there is a circular table-like concrete structure set upon three metal legs. (Glastir HEF Report 2013. SH)
