Description :
Part of barrow cemetery 8440g. A large circular mound with a well-defined perimeter situated in woodland, it has uniform steeply sloping sides, a level top and no visible ditch. The mound stands quite high, is turf covered and has a strip of exposed cobble sized stone (0.05-0.1m) aligned E-W; this damage is due to a motorcycle track eroding the mound. The site has had at least four large trees growing on the mound and some smaller woodland scrub that has been recently removed. The larger tree trunks, now placed on their sides, define the top of the mound, presumably to prevent more erosion by motorcycles. 15m to the W is another mound, 01020g.
Dimensions: diameter 24m N-S height; 2.5m
(1987) See 1020G. One of two barrows (other is 1020G). Diameter is c17m and height of 1.8m. Circular with a flattish top, grass and tree overgrown. A narrow path up the west side is worn bare. (Source 03)
