Description :
Part of barrow cemetery 8440g. A large circular mound with a well-defined perimeter situated in woodland; it has a gently sloping side to the N&E, with rather steeper sloping side to the S&W. The mound stands quite high, is turf covered and has a strip of exposed cobble sized stone (0.05-0.1m) aligned E-W. This damaged is due to a motorcycle track eroding the mound. There seems to have been recent clearance of woodland and scrub growing on the mound, with the top of the mound now defined by felled trees presumably hindering any future motorcycle use.
Dimensions: diameter 24m N-S height;1.7m S, 1.1m N.
(1987) This is the most E of the two barrows (other is 1021G). It is the largest, with a diameter of c22m and a height of 2.5m. It is circular with a flattened top. Parts have been worn bare by paths and motorcyclists. Overgrown with grass and trees. (Source 03)
