Summary :
A 19th century stone dam across the River Clydach, constructed to impound water in the Cwm Clydach Pond for the Neath Abbey ironworks to the south.

Description :
A 19th century stone dam, built in 1840 across the River Clydach, constructed to impound water in the Cwm Clydach Pond for use in the Neath Abbey ironworks (PRN 00845w), 1km downstream to the south. The south (dry) side of the dam stands to an impressive height, at an angle c c75 degrees. It is constructed from high-quality masonry, with three buttressses extending upwards for most of its height. There are two circular openings in base and for the outfall from the sluices. A minor roadway runs along the top

Trysor identified that the original 1840 dam was partially rebuilt after it parts of it collapsed in floods on 19th November 1929.

The dam's sluice lies approximately at SS7390198770.
