Description :
Phillips notes that the Llangwm Isaf earthwork is very overgrown and comprises a small mound (maximum 2.9m in height) with a slightly dished interior; north-east of the motte is a waterlogged rectilinear area excavated from the surrounding bank which is thought to represent quarrying and not a bailey. Phillips notes that Cadw categorise the site as a ring-work but disagrees with this interpretation due to its very large surface area (at 926.409m²) which could possibly accommodate buildings.

It is noted that the site has a good vantage point and a motte in this location could possibly function as a watch tower (though natural defences are weak). Phillips suggests that the site may be a re-used pre-historic site due to its shape, that it may be an adapted as an early period watch tower, or a late period fortified site. He also notes that dating of the site is not confirmed, labelling it a motte (watch tower; Phillips 2004).
