Description :
This cairn is a member of the Lower Hale Wood Round Barrow Cemetery and is the best preserved of the 3 cairns. The mound, tentatively described by Cadw workers (1992) as a Bronze Age burial mound, is a quite large oval cairn of exposed moss and pine needle covered stones, situated in dense woodland on the opposite side of the road to 3940g & 724g. The perimeter of the cairn is irregularly defined with steeply sloping sides to the S&SW and more gently sloping sides to the N. The cairn has an uneven and disturbed surface with many small pockmarks; these features appear to be the result of uprooted trees that were once growing over the mound. The central-E area of the cairn contains a small hollow that is slightly larger than the pockmarks around it; the cause is unclear although it may be the result of a robbing event in antiquity.
Dimensions: diameter 15m E-W height; 1.6m E, 2m W
See 724G. In dense undergrowth and impossible to reach. Details of these cairns are inconsistent.
