NGR : ST10858100

Summary :
Small hill-top camp with single rampart of moderate strength, oval plan, inturned entrance at W end.

Description :
Small hill-top camp with single rampart of moderate strength, oval plan, inturned entrance at W end.

The earthwork stands about 1km south of Pentyrch on the W end of a small hill, just above the 120m contour, with ground falling away fairly steeply on all sides except the E. The defences area damaged and partly destroyed, but seem originally to have comprised two ramparts and ditches, enclosing an egg-shaped space 85m NE-SW by 60m, with the entrance at the smaller (SW) end; the area is 0.4ha. The outer ditch has been obliterated round nearly all the circuit, the outer bank along most of the S side, and the inner bank round the N half; where best preserved, each bank stands about 2.5m high above the bottom of the ditch, and just S of the entrance the defences measure about 27m wide overall. The entrance is straight, across a causeway which interrupts the outer ditch and between banks about 7.5m apart joining the ends of the inner and outer ramparts. The interior has been cultivated.
