Description :
At 300m OD on ground falling to the SW, about 3km NW of Maesteg. A sub-rectangular (possibly oval) enclosure 0.1ha, bounded by a substantial bank with external U-shaped ditch, well marked on the NE and SE, but slighter on the NW and is absent on the SW. At the S end of the fort a gap in the bank 4.5m wide, coinciding with the termination of the SE ditch, indicates the position of the entrance. A modern stone wall crosses the site NW- SE and has somewhat damaged the remains.
The defences are absent on the NE for a length of 12m. That this gap is original seems certain from the fact that on its SE side the bank is inturned; moreover from the point of inturn a bank, with a hollow trail along its NW flank, runs NE up the hillside for about 32m. It seems likely that the gap was used for driving in domestic animals from the slopes above the camp and could be closed by thorns or fencing when necessary. 20m ESE of the S entrance is a bank 15m long with a ditch along its upper side. This is presumed to be part of an earlier attempt to build the fort, abandoned because the ground rose too steeply. (Wiggins and Evans 2005)
