Summary :
Stone well structure over allegedly mineral spring.

Description :
Stone well structure over allegedly mineral spring. The spring rises in the middle of a horseshoe shaped basin fronted by 4 centred arch, has rectangular niches (for drinking vessels or offerings?). The structure is probably late Medieval but could be C16th/17th. Jones 1954 (1954, 196; Trelleck wells); one of Jones's class C wells ('wells which, in early literature or in surviving tradition, are known to have been primarily reputed to be healing wells, and whose names are not those of saints as in class A, and are not as closely or obviously connected with churches as those in class B'). Known as St Anne's Well, at Trellech (Jones 1954, 194; Arch Camb 1909, 70-1). Evans 2003: GGAT 73 Early-Medieval Ecclesiastical Sites Project database.
