Description :
A well-marked mound of sandstone blocks and chippings of red sandstone with a little quartzite, mainly <0.2m. A trig point has been built over the S side and a hole dug into the top. 16.7m NW-SE x 15.4m, c0.9m high GGAT 72 Prehistoric Funerary and Ritual Sites survey 2001.

(1964/1976) On the summit of Foel Fynyddau, W of Pont- rhyd-y-fen, at 371m above OD, with extensive views in all directions. A circular cairn, 19.2m in diameter and 0.9m high. Robbing at the centre has resulted in oval hollow, 6.7m by 5.5m and 0.6m deep; the stones within are reddened by fire, possibly from the use of the cairn as a beacon. On the S edge of the hollow is an OS pillar . Stones from the cairn lie scattered on the ground all around. ( Source 03 )

(1977) No change ( Source 05 )

(1982) No change ( Source 06 )

(1986) The cairn is as described. A small enclosure about 3m x 3m with a high fence and a concrete floor lies about 8m to the NE. Starting about 30m to the S is a disturbed area apparently connected with copper working. Two mounds among this disturbance may have been taken for cairns, but their content suggests that they are spurious.
(Source 08 )

(1991) There appears to be only one genuine cairn in this area, that surmounted by the OS pillar. Other mounds nearby appear to be associated with the remains of a flue which ran up the mountain to this point from the copper works in the valley below, they contain recent building materials.( Source 13 )

(1997) The cairn itself appears unchanged. Another enclosure has appeared across the track to the north of it and the aerial to its north east has been altered; an apparently temporary structure was in place at the time of visit. ( Source 14 )
