Description :
A reed-covered mound showing occasional slabs of sandstone on the surface; edges not well defined. Damaged by a series of N-S furrows. Trig point in the middle. Just outside forestry fence Dimensions: c12m diameter, c0.8m high
(1953) A partially turf-covered mound, slightly E of and below the highest point in the area. It is 11.8m N-S, 15m E-W and 0.8m high, and surmounted in the W by an OS trig pillar. The mound has been mutilated by Forestry Commission tractors. Although the area is very stony, a larger scatter is to be found on and around the mound. (Source 02)
(1962/1976) On a mountain summit. It is 11.3m in diameter and 0.6m high. An apparent elongation to the NE is due to its situation on a rocky ridge. It is built of small slabs. One, upright, 0.6m long N-S and 0.1m thick, projects about 0.2m from the surface at the ESE. Other large slabs lying on the surface may have been pulled out from structural features. An OS triangulation pillar surmounts the cairn, and a forestry fence just touches the mound at the NE. (Source 01)
(1979) The cairn, and surrounding ground, has been ridged by machinery which accounts for the surface scattering of slabs. (Source 04)
(1985) The cairn lies on the ridge top, just to the west of Forestry Commission plantations, in a moorland field. It is 1m high, with a Trig point on the summit. The diameter is difficult to determine, as it has been furrowed in a NW-SE direction (some time ago), but is c12m. It is turf- and reed-covered, with large slabs scattered all over its surface, and around it as well. (Source 06)
