Description :
Please note that some of the sources contain information that, as yet, has not been included in this description field. This will be updated in due course. The larger of a pair of cairns (PRN 5075w), the other being PRN 534w. A large low heap of slabs of sandstone (<1.0m across); one of these is on edge, but looks to be more likely to be the result of later disturbance than part of a cist. Centre dug out in a series of irregular hollows.

In a clearing in forestry, partly obscured at the time of the site visit by fallen trees which make it impossible to determine whether any of the kerb of stone laid flat noted on the S side by RCAHMW in 1962 still survives; the Monument Warden record of 1985 refers to considerable disturbance on this side. The RCAHMW notes that the mound was circular and about 15.2 m in diameter, and was set on what appeared to be a natural mound measuring 20.4 m E-W. by 17.7 m wide. c15.3m diameter N-S, c0.9m high GGAT 72 Prehistoric Funerary and Ritual Sites survey 2001.

(1956) A cairn 20.0m in diameter and 1.0m high . The centre has been disturbed and contains the ruins of a shelter constructed from the slab stones of the cairn ( Source 03 )
(1962/1976) Carn Cornel, on a moorland ridge at 380 m above O.D. A large mound of stones , 20.4 m long from E. to W. by 17.7 m wide, and 0.9 m high. The base of the mound may be partly natural, and the actual cairn appears to have been circular and about 15.2 m in diameter. A kerb of stones laid flat is visible for a short distance on the S. At the centre, irregular hollows and a dry - built modern shelter testify to robbing and disturbance. The cairn is now in a forestry plantation but has been fenced off. ( Source 02 )
(1982) Unchanged , a cairn in forest on a NW facing spur at 385m OD ( Source 07 )

(1985) The large cairn has been considerably disturbed especially on the south , possibly a while ago ( Source 05 )
(1991) Virtually unchanged ( Source 08 )
(1997) There may have been some disturbance to the cairn . The traces of kerb now seem more convincing among the stonework to the west than on the south or east . ( Source 09 )
(1998) Bronze Age cairn. On W facing slope. (Source 01)
