Description :
The Old Bridge consists of three stone arches (formerly four), with one arch now built into adjoining structure. It is of 15th Century type, but evidently reconstructed and is now used as footbridge only.

Elements of the exposed bridge were recorded via a Level II Building Survey in December 2014 (E007115). Masonry of the original bridge was seen during electricity works at the western end of the bridge and was left in situ during a watching brief in 2017 (James-Martin 2017).

The Ordnance Survey Record card records the following (Compiled 9.1.1957 by NV Quinell):

‘The bridge and the has four segmental arches. Two arches completely span the river: to the N.E. the remains of the other two one visible in the ground floor of buildings which abut the N.W. side of the bridge. Each arch is approximately 10.0m long and, although blocked and only visible intermittently, each is approximately 2.0m high at its maximum. The cutwater which probably separates these arches is not visible but may be encased in heavy masonry which forms a party wall.’
