GGAT 63 Romano-British SE Wales Settlement Survey (2001)

The remains of a D-shaped enclosure, about 87m long from N-S by 57m in breadth enclosing about 0.4ha, stand on level enclosed land at 90m OD on the S side of Cefn Hirgoed. The straight E side is defended by a scarp, mutilated towards the N but on the SE falling into a vast ditch about 15m wide and 4.5m deep, this is probably partly or even wholly natural but has been incorporated in the defences. On the S the surviving portion of the defences consists of a bank 7m wide and 1.3m high, with an external ditch 7m wide and nearly 1m deep, partly filled with rubbish. On the SW the defences have been partly, and on the N completely, destroyed. The best preserved portion of the defences is on the W and consists of a bank 8m wide and 1.5m high with an external ditch 8m wide and 1.3m deep. (Wiggins and Evans 2005)
