Ty'r Coed Standing Stone

Summary :
A block of quartzite, roughly trapezoidal in plan, with a squared top, now standing in a partly removed old hedge bank. It stands on a slope, with the S (downhill) side measuring 2.5m in height and the N/W (uphill) side 2.0m.

Description :
A block of quartzite, roughly trapezoidal in plan, with a squared top, now standing in a partly removed old hedge bank. It stands on a slope, with the S (downhill) side measuring 2.5m in height and the N/W (uphill) side 2.0m; this slope forms the N side of a bowl, with Cefn Bryn forming the N side. 0.7m N x 0.7m E x 0.9m S x 1.2m W; max ht 2.5m S GGAT 72 Prehistoric Funerary and Ritual Sites survey 2001.

(1956) The stone is roughly rectangular in shape and tapers slightly upwards. It is 1.5m wide at base, is up to 1.0m thick and is 2.5m high. The stone is of conglomerate and has been incorporated in a field boundary. There is no visible trace of an associated mound or of other stones in the area. (Source 05)
(1961/1976) At Ty'r - coed, N of Reynoldston in Gower, at 60m above OD, now incorporated in the S boundary bank of the farmyard. The stone, a quartz conglomerate, is 2.5m high and tapers slightly upwards; its base measures 1.5m by 1m. The field immediately to the S is called Stone Park in the Tithe Award schedule. (Source 01)
(1971) No change , survey correct (Source 07)
(1985) Slightly overgrown , but otherwise in good condition. (Source 08)
(1989) The stone is as before but clearer of vegetation. An agricultural building has been erected about 5m from the stone in the farmyard to the N. The stone stands on the bank (lynchet) between the farmyard and the field to the S, which is at a lower level. (Source 09)
(1996) The hedgerow has been grubbed up for some distance either side of the stone. The stone appears cleaner than before. (Source 11)
